As an XBOX member of the last 3 or 4 years I have always thought that it is worth spending money on and at times worth spending £40 to be online but just recently I have found myself really doubting my conviction.
It started at the reveal when I will be honest I found that they didn't focus enough on gaming, which is what the XBOX and XBOX 360 have always been about, okay the 360 started to lean towards films and things like that but that's fine as long as they don't take over. But then XBOX One was revealed and it seems that focus has shifted from gaming to a super awesome family console that is set for the family of the future with TV, films, games and such which is fine for future planning but let's just hold up a moment, what if it isn't what fans want? What if we don't want to pay £40 a year ( or more depending on what is said at E3 ) for a subscription service that offers stuff that most regions can't even use.
For me it just seems as if Microsoft are trying to money spin the hell out of the new console and not really taking in to account what the customer actually wants. My girlfriend is a big reader of the website Reddit and the amount of people on there that are really against the new console and have played on an XBOX for years is really quite scary. I'm not saying I am boycotting XBOX or anything like that and I am certainly not going over to the dark side of the PS4 because that would be a waste of the 3 years I have spent on XBOX Live but rumours and facts circulating about the new console are really getting me thinking about whether I am actually going to buy it or not.
The following things are really bugging me:-
- No backwards compatibility so you can't play Xbox 360 on it - FACT
- Xbox live membership still costing £40 a year, Playstation can give it for free why cant XBOX
- Game availability, will we have to wait longer for games that are being released on XBOX 360 first
- Pricing, nothing worse than an unbelievably expensive piece of technology
- For YouTubers apparently game capture devices will NOT be supported by it so where does that leave us???
There are probably a few more things that I just can't think of but these are the things that have really got my mind buzzing I know we will know a lot more once E3 is over but for all XBOX players I would be really concerned about the direction of this new console and to XBOX and Microsoft I suggest you make some much needed changes to what could be a complete dive bomb of a console if not pulled off correctly.
